5 Easy Website Updates You Can Make Today

At Superfecta we love a great website, both in terms of working on one and using one! A great website is visually appealing, easy to navigate, and is the home base for a company. However, all too often people think that a website is a “set it and forget it” situation. Create the website once and you’re done! This is not the case…

You should be making small changes and additions to your website on a consistent basis to ensure it works properly and reflects your business. If you can carve out an hour or 2 (we know this can be hard!) here are 5 easy updates you can make to your website that will make a big difference in usability and appearance.

5 Easy Website Improvements

Update Your Content

Depending on how much content is on your website, this one may take longer than an hour, but It’s worth it! You want to be a go-to source for trustworthy information, and you can’t claim that title if the content on your site is old.

Go through the pages on your website and any blogs you have and check to ensure that all statistics, facts, and date are still accurate. A blog from 2015 about Instagram best practices is likely out of date considering how frequently the platform changes. Skim through your about page, any pricing and services pages you may have. In addition to stats and facts, you want your website visitors to have the right information about your business!

Check Your Links

This one can be done while you’re updating the content. Go through your website and check that all links are working properly. For one reason or another, links have a tendency of breaking from time to time. If it’s an outbound link it could be that the page no longer exists. If it’s an inbound link you could’ve changed that URL a few months back and forgotten to create a redirect. Whatever the reason is, a broken link does not spell a good user experience. You want people to click on the links on your website and end up where you want them to.

Update Photos

Whether you are using stock or original photography, swap out the existing photos on your website for new ones. This is an easy way to alert search engines that you’re publishing new content as well as give your website a fresh look. Frequent visitors will notice the change and be excited about the new look and feel!

Check for Brand Consistency

When we say brand consistency we mean, does your website match the look and feel of your overall brand? Are the colors on your website consistent, is the right version of your logo being used, and does the tone align with how you want your business to sound?

You may be wondering how someone uses the wrong colors or logo on their website, but if you’ve gone through a recent rebrand it can be easy to forget to replace the logo in a couple spots. We also see a lot of people using colors that are inline with their brand simply because they look nice. Try to stick with your brand colors and use black or white in areas where your colors may not work.

Utilize White Space

These days, less is more. There’s nothing worse than looking at a page with too much on it. Ads, text, pictures & calls-to-action can be a lot on the eyes! Break them up and give people’s eyes a rest. You should also work on a “less is more” approach when it comes to the text on your website.

People skim content and don’t bother to read walls of text. Instead, audit your website and decide if there are areas you can reduce the amount of text. Try summarizing large paragraphs or using icons and bulleted lists to deliver the important information. This way, you’ll keep your visitors attention and they’ll receive your message quicker than if it’s buried at the end of a 300 word paragraph.

One thing to note is that this doesn’t apply to blogs. People head to blogs expecting to read a lengthy piece of content. For this reason, a blog is a great way to inform your readers and provide important updates without cluttering the main pages of your website.

If you’ve made it to this point and have realized that your website is in need of an overhaul more than some quick updates, reach out to us! The prospect of a new website makes us do a little happy dance and we love talking about all things layout, branding, and functionality.
